Muju
Live Out Your K-Dreams
Although it might not be a place to spend the whole weekend at, but a short stop on your tour while passing by might turn out to be a fun stop indeed. Here, you can learn about 13,500 kinds of insects, taste the local wine at the Wine Cave, enjoy a fun filled resort trip or taste delicious food at the Firefly Market (if you’re there on the days it’s open). It is a great small town, where you can further learn about Korean culture and daily life.
Bandi Land Insect Museum
Spread over 122,314m2, Bandi Land Theme park has a lot to offer to its visitors. No matter the age, there you can learn more about the insects (over 13,500 species) and fireflies in the nature, visit the greenhouse or attend a nature school! Even more, to make sure you fully enjoy your visit, there is an observation and various recreational and camping sites too!
Muju Firefly Market
A representative traditional market of Muju, only operating on the days ending in 1 or 6, the market offers a range of household goods and delicious foods. The market has over 100 years of history and this can be seen in sellers faces as they’ll greet you with a smile and delicious fresh produce.
Muju Meoru Wine Cave
Once being built as a Muju Water Power Plant, the tunnel was remodeled to be a wine tunnel instead. The place, surrounded by the stunning natural scenery, will invite you inside to try out the local wine made of sanmeoru (wild grape) while escaping the summer heat of South Korea.
Deogyusan Ski Resort
Located on Mt. Deogyusan, the resort is a beautiful mix of fun and natural beauty. Although famous year round, it is exceptionally busy during the ski season in winter. However, during the other seasons you can also enjoy mountain climbing, horse riding, tennis, golf and the theme- based local shopping mall.
While we would recommend stopping off at Muju only for a day (unless you are staying at a fun filled Deogyusan Resort), we would recommend getting some snacks to get you through the journey. One of our favorites would be Crispy Seaweed snacks found in every shop. They might be just one of the healthiest snack options there is, as they contain fiber, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants (even good for those who are on Paleo diet). You can find a number of different tastes too- wasabi, chili, green tea just to name a few…
