City Hall and Myeongdong are vibrant and bustling areas in Seoul. Just a short distance away, Myeongdong is a bustling shopping district renowned for its trendy stores, street food, and lively atmosphere, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists.
Seoul City Hall
Built in 2012, this eco-friendly building boasts a striking glass exterior and features the Green Wall, a vertical garden with over 70,000 plants across 14 species. Spanning 1,516 square meters and rising seven floors, it holds the Guinness World Record for the longest vertical garden. Located next to City Hall, you can also visit the Seoul Library, where PSY filmed "Gangnam Style," and Seoul Plaza, a lively space hosting year-round events, including a winter ice skating rink.
Deoksugung palace
A sumptuous palace from the Daehan Empire (1897-1910), it blends traditional and modern Korean architecture. Explore the Jeonggwanheon Pavilion, once the King’s rest area, and marvel at the Western-style décor of Seokjojeon Hall. The palace is unique in Seoul for its evening visits and is a great spot to watch the guard-changing ceremony, held three times a day.
K-style Hub
A hub for experiencing the best of Korean culture, this venue offers cooking classes, hanbok fittings, Korean cuisine insights, and traditional crafts. It’s an excellent place to explore Korean culture and history, and best of all, admission is free!
Cheonggyecheon Stream
An artificial 10.84 km stream stretches from the artistic Cheonggye Plaza to the Han River. Originally built during the Joseon Dynasty and later buried underground, it has been restored to its current form. Enjoy a pleasant walk along the stream and explore various attractions, including the annual Lantern Festival of Lights in autumn.
Namsangol Hanok Village
Opened in 1998, this cultural venue features five traditional Korean houses, from peasant to aristocrat residences. Explore the traditional garden, enjoy performances at the arts stage, and learn about the buried time capsule set to be reopened in 2394. Engage in various cultural experiences, including hanbok fittings, hanji paper folding, traditional tea ceremonies, and etiquette lessons.
Namsan Seoul Tower
As the tallest tower in Seoul and one of the highest in Asia, it provides breathtaking views of the city from its observatory deck and mountain peak. Visit the lovers’ wall to leave a wish with a padlock, enjoy a coffee or snack at the café, explore the charming souvenir shop, and take in the stunning vistas. You can either hike to the top or take the cable car for an equally impressive experience.
Seoullo 7017
Once a highway, this scenic walkway now stretches from Seoul Station to the Namsan area. It features gardens, art displays, cafes, and occasional live performances. It’s a wonderful spot for a stroll, offering spectacular views of Seoul, particularly towards Seoul Station.
Myeong-dong
A bustling shopping district where time seems to fly by, it features luxury department stores, vibrant street vendors, and a mix of international and traditional restaurants alongside street food stands. Nearby, you’ll find the 19th-century gothic-style Myeong-dong Cathedral and the Nanta Theatre, which hosts a variety of traditional and comedic performances.
